A long-time amateur photographer with a passion for athletics, John established Risley Sports Photography in 2003 following a rewarding and enjoyable 25-year career in educational administration. Along the way he earned a couple of graduate degrees, taught in an MBA program, and coached collegiate ski racing. Prior to starting Risley Sports Photography, John worked for several regional sports photography companies. He is a member of the American Society of Media Photographers, the National Press Photographers Association, and a Senior Member of SportsShooter. John’s earlier work in fundraising and institutional advancement provides him with an understanding and appreciation of the importance of creating images that communicate the vital role that athletics play in the education of students.

In addition to Risley Sports Photography, John works on behalf of several non-profit organizations including a charitable foundation that supports programs to encourage girls and young women to participate in competitive team sports. He is a regular on the New England Masters Ski Racing circuit and is an avid cyclist and wilderness canoe camper. John and his family live in Northampton, Massachusetts.

John’s son, Matt, brought his photographic passion and skills to Risley Sports Photography when he began working with John in 2005.
